Black car in London · 2026-09-21 · 8-minute read
Downtown London, Ontario's hotels - the DoubleTree by Hilton on King Street, the Delta Hotels London Armouries on Dundas Street and the core's smaller properties - sit within a few blocks of Canada Life Place at King and Talbot, RBC Place London on York Street, the Grand Theatre on Richmond, Covent Garden Market, the courthouse and City Hall, so that a visitor here for the Knights, a concert, a conference, a play or a trial walks to most of it. The car matters at the airport ends - Pearson at $295-345 and YXU at $45-65 for a sedan - and on the nights the arena empties nine thousand people onto Dundas Street at once; the hotels page and the venues page have the core, and this article is the downtown stay in detail.
The core, on foot
From the DoubleTree's King Street door: Canada Life Place one block west, RBC Place next door, the market across the street, the Grand five minutes north, Richmond Row ten, the courthouse and City Hall eight; from the Delta Armouries on Dundas: the arena four minutes, the market three, the Grand four, the Row six. A downtown visitor's days need no car; the neighbourhoods page has the core's streets.
| From the downtown hotels | Walk | The car, when it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Canada Life Place | 1-4 min | The return corner on a playoff night, if the hotel is further than the DoubleTree |
| RBC Place London | Next door to 5 min | The gala's Sprinter from a home; the delegates' airport runs |
| The Grand Theatre | 4-5 min | A winter evening; the return at curtain-down |
| Covent Garden Market | 1-3 min | - |
| Richmond Row | 6-10 min | The late return on Halloween or New Year's |
| The courthouse and City Hall | 6-8 min | The trial day's boxes; the witness from the hotel at 9:25 |
| Western's campus | 15 min by car | The convocation day by the hour |
| YXU | 20 min by car | $45-65 |
| Pearson | 2 h by car | $295-345 |
The arena night, from a downtown hotel
A visitor staying at the DoubleTree walks to the Knights and walks back; a visitor staying at a Wellington Road or Masonville hotel books a fixed-rate car to the Dundas Street door and a pickup from Talbot and King moved by text at the horn, because the garages are full by 6:30 and the rank has three cabs for nine thousand people. The Knights article has the night and the concerts and sports page the fare.

The conference, from RBC Place
RBC Place London on York Street hosts the trade shows, the conferences, the hospital foundations' galas and the chamber's awards, and the DoubleTree is beside it; a conference's delegates arrive from Pearson on a manifest the group transportation page describes, walk to the sessions, and are driven to a plant, a winery or the campus for the excursion. The corporate page has the organiser's account.
The Grand, the Row and the evening
The Grand Theatre's season from October to May, Richmond Row's restaurants and bars, London Music Hall and Rum Runners on Queens Avenue, Aeolian Hall in the Old East Village: a downtown visitor walks to the Grand and the Row and books a car to the Music Hall or Aeolian Hall; the venues page has each door.
The courthouse and City Hall
A lawyer, a witness or a delegation staying downtown for a trial or a council meeting walks eight minutes to the Dundas and Ridout courthouse or the Dufferin Avenue City Hall, or books the fixed-rate car for the boxes and the 9:25 arrival; the government page has the buildings and the law firm's account the trial week.
The DoubleTree and the Delta, in detail
The DoubleTree by Hilton London Ontario is the conference hotel with the porte-cochere on King Street, the tower's rooms over the arena and the convention centre, and the market across the street; the Delta Hotels by Marriott London Armouries is the historic hotel built into the 1905 armoury with the ballroom the city's weddings and galas use and a porte-cochere on Dundas. The hotels page has both and the travel desk books either.
The smaller downtown hotels, and the Row's inns
The core's smaller hotels and the inns north of Oxford Street near the Row take the visitor who wants a smaller property within the same walk, and the chauffeur knows each's door; the desk says honestly which have a porte-cochere and which a street drop.
The airport ends
Met at Pearson's Terminal 1 with a name board and delivered to the King Street porte-cochere two hours and ten minutes later; met at YXU's carousel and delivered in twenty; collected at the porte-cochere at 5:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. Pearson flight or 5:20 for a 6:40 YXU one. The Pearson to London article has the meet and the airport limo page the rules.
The wedding at the Delta
The Delta Armouries' ballroom hosts the city's downtown weddings, and the wedding page has the timeline - the partner fleet's stretch from the hotel to the church and back, the guests by Sprinter from the other hotels, and the photographs at the forks five minutes away.
Three downtown stays, as they went
A Knights weekend, a Sarnia couple. The DoubleTree; two games walked to; the market's rink on Saturday afternoon; the car only from and to Sarnia at $215 each way.
A conference, a Calgary delegate. Met at Pearson; the DoubleTree; three days walked to RBC Place; a plant visit by car on the last afternoon; Pearson at 5.
A trial week, a Toronto litigator. The Delta Armouries; the courthouse walked to most days and driven on the days with boxes; the firm's account; the Row in the evenings.
Booking it
The airport-to-hotel run is on the reservation engine in seconds; the room, the conference manifest and the arena night's corner are one email to the desk; the hotels page has the downtown cluster.
Three questions the desk is asked about downtown stays
Can I walk from the DoubleTree to the arena at night? One block along King Street, lit and busy on a game night; yes. Where does the chauffeur pick me up at the Delta on a playoff night? At the Dundas Street porte-cochere, which is four minutes from the arena's Dundas entrance and clear of the crowd. Is the market open in the evening? The food hall closes early evening; the restaurants around the square and on the Row are the dinner.
RBC Place's loop, and the gala night
RBC Place's York Street entrance has a drop-off loop that the gala nights fill with limousines, and the chauffeur uses it early or drops at the Wellington Street corner; a gala's table books a Sprinter from a home and back at midnight on the host's corporate account, and the venues page has the convention centre.
The Grand's evening, in detail
The Grand's Richmond Street front has a short loading zone the chauffeur uses for the drop at 7:45, the Talbot Street garage is the wait, and the return is from the front at curtain-down; a downtown guest walks, and a guest from Byron books two fixed rates. The Grand's site has the season.
The market's square, and New Year's
Covent Garden Market's square across King Street from the DoubleTree hosts the summer market, the winter rink and the New Year's Eve countdown, and a downtown guest walks to all three; the New Year's Eve article has the night for a guest from elsewhere.
The courthouse from the hotel, in detail
The Dundas and Ridout courthouse is eight minutes' walk from the Delta's door and ten from the DoubleTree's, and a litigator walks on the days without boxes and books the car on the days with them; the courthouse article has the trial week.
The Row's inns, and the smaller hotels
The core's smaller hotels and the inns north of Oxford Street near the Row take the visitor who wants a smaller property within the same walk, and the chauffeur knows each's door and whether it has a porte-cochere or a street drop; the hotels page has the cluster.
The downtown guest's day trips
A guest downtown for a week adds a Stratford evening, a Port Stanley afternoon or a wine tour from the porte-cochere at the destination page's rate, and the destinations hub has each.
The DoubleTree's and the Delta's own pages
Both hotels publish their rooms, their restaurants, their parking and their event spaces on their sites, and the travel desk books either as an agent for the guest; this article is the downtown stay as the chauffeurs drive it, and the hotels' sites are the inventory.
Booking checklist for a downtown stay
The flight or the pickup address; the hotel; the arena night's date and the entrance; the conference's dates; the days out of the core; the departure flight; the account or the card; and a phone number. The reservation engine takes the airport run and the desk the rest.
A worked example: the conference delegate's four days
Met at Pearson's Terminal 1 at 4:10 p.m. on Monday; the DoubleTree's porte-cochere at 6:25; RBC Place walked to on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday; the conference's excursion to a Tartan Drive plant by Sprinter on Wednesday afternoon; the gala at RBC Place on Wednesday night walked to; dinner on the Row on Thursday; Pearson at 2 p.m. on Friday. Two airport runs on the organiser's account and nothing else needed; the group transportation page has the manifest the organiser used for two hundred delegates.
The market's square, and the winter rink
The rink in Covent Garden Market's square from December to March is a downtown guest's evening across the street from the DoubleTree, with skate rentals at the market and the Christmas lights in Victoria Park two blocks north; the events page has December.
The core's parking, honestly
A downtown guest with a car pays the hotel's parking and the core's meters and moves the car on a game night; a chauffeured guest has none of it, and the neighbourhoods page has the core's streets for the guest who walks.
Booking it, in one line
The reservation engine prices the airport run to the DoubleTree or the Delta in seconds; the room and the conference are one email to the desk.
The desk's rule of thumb
Walk to the arena, the market, the Grand and RBC Place; book the car for the airport ends, the plant visit, the campus and the region; book the corner on a playoff night from any hotel outside the core; and let the travel desk book the room. The rates page has the figures and the FAQ the rest.
The Row after the game
A downtown guest walking back from the arena passes Dundas Place's patios and, ten minutes north, Richmond Row's bars, and the walk home from the Row at 1 a.m. is six minutes to the Delta; a guest from Byron books the corner at Oxford and Richmond and the party bus page has the group version.
