London to Pearson & the airports · 2026-09-21 · 8-minute read

For a departure from London, Ontario's airport (YXU), LondonLimo.net's rule is to be at the terminal ninety minutes before a domestic flight and two hours before an international one, which from downtown means leaving home about two hours before a domestic departure and two and a quarter before an international one, with the drive from each neighbourhood added and a winter margin on a squall morning. Security at YXU takes ten to fifteen minutes on a normal morning and thirty when a full sun flight is checking in; the chauffeur drops at the curb thirty metres from check-in; and the run is a fixed rate - a planning figure of $45-65 for a sedan from most of the city. The YXU page has the terminal; this article is the departure timing in detail.

The rule, and why it is shorter than Pearson's

Pearson's rule on the London to Pearson page is three hours and forty minutes before an international flight and three before a domestic one, plus the two-hour drive; YXU's is ninety minutes and two hours, plus fifteen minutes, because the terminal is one room, security is one lane or two, and the gate is a two-minute walk. The rule is still a rule: the airlines close check-in forty-five to sixty minutes before departure at YXU as everywhere, and a passenger who arrives at forty minutes for a sun flight with checked bags is not flying.

Planning times; the neighbourhoods page has each area's drive to YXU, and the engine sets the pickup from the flight.

The 5 a.m. sun flight

The winter sun flights leave YXU between 6 and 7 a.m. with a full aircraft, and the check-in queue at 4:30 is the longest the terminal sees; a family with four bags and a stroller wants to be in it at 4:30, not at 5:15. The chauffeur is at the door at 4:05 from Byron with the SUV warm, the bags are in the trunk while the children are carried out asleep, and the family is at the curb at 4:30 with the airport limo page's family routine done. The small early-hours premium before 5 a.m. is on the engine before you confirm.

The connection through Toronto or Calgary

Most YXU departures are the first leg of a connection - Toronto to the world, Calgary to the west - on one ticket, and the airline protects the connection when the YXU leg is late; the desk's note on the booking is the whole itinerary, so that a passenger with a tight connection at Pearson is told honestly whether the Pearson direct with the drive would have been safer. The YXU code article has the arithmetic.

Security at YXU, honestly

One or two lanes, CATSA's standard screening, ten to fifteen minutes on a weekday morning, twenty-five to thirty-five when a 180-seat sun flight and a Toronto flight are boarding in the same hour; the lounge is small and the gates are a two-minute walk. A passenger with NEXUS has no separate lane at YXU and uses the same queue.

The drive from each part of the city

Downtown, Old North, Old East and the northeast: ten to fifteen minutes on Oxford Street or Highbury Avenue to Crumlin Road. Byron, Westmount, Oakridge and Hyde Park: twenty to twenty-five on Oxford Street West or Fanshawe Park Road. White Oaks, Wellington Road and the south: twenty to twenty-five on Highbury Avenue or Veterans Memorial Parkway. Lambeth and Riverbend: thirty. The chauffeur knows the morning's road work from the City's notices and the airport's construction from the airport's, and adds the minutes before the passenger is asked to.

Winter at YXU

A squall over the northeast slows Oxford Street and Highbury Avenue and the chauffeur adds twenty to thirty minutes; the aircraft de-ices on the apron, which delays the departure but not the check-in cut-off, so the rule holds. The desk reads the Environment Canada forecast the evening before and moves the pickup earlier when the morning looks white; the YXU page has the winter rule.

The corporate morning

A London executive on the 6:30 a.m. Toronto flight to connect to a 9:30 to Ottawa or Montreal, a Diamond Aircraft customer on the evening Calgary flight, a 3M engineer on the Toronto flight to connect to St. Paul: the corporate account holds the standing runs, the assistant books in two minutes, and the chauffeur is at the door at 4:45 a.m. every Monday with the same car. The business page describes the companies whose travellers do it.

Three departures, as they went

A sun flight to Punta Cana, 6:40 a.m., February. An SUV from Westmount at 4:05, the curb at 4:30, the family through check-in by 4:55 and security by 5:20; the aircraft de-iced and left at 7:10.

A Toronto connection to Halifax, 6:30 a.m., Tuesday. A sedan from Old North at 4:50, the curb at 5:02, the passenger at the gate by 5:30 with a coffee.

A Calgary flight, 8 p.m., Friday. A sedan from Lambeth at 6:00, the curb at 6:30, and the passenger's only complaint that there had been nothing to worry about.

Booking it

Enter YXU as the destination on the reservation engine with the flight number in the notes; the fixed rate from any London address appears and the pickup follows the rule. The FAQ answers the questions about bags, car seats and the early-hours premium.

What check-in and security actually require

The airlines close check-in for a domestic flight forty-five minutes before departure and for an international one sixty, and the gate closes fifteen to twenty minutes before; a passenger with checked bags who is not at the counter by the cut-off is re-booked, and the desk's rule - ninety minutes and two hours - is built to put the passenger at the counter with forty-five minutes to spare on a normal day and fifteen on a bad one. The CATSA site lists what may and may not go through security, which is the same at YXU as at Pearson.

The bags, and the vehicle

A sedan takes three cases and a carry-on; an SUV six; a family of four with four cases and a stroller books the SUV, a family of six with luggage the van, and the fleet page says so. The chauffeur loads the trunk while the passenger locks the house, and at YXU's curb the bags come out onto a trolley thirty metres from the counter.

The flight cancelled, the flight moved

A YXU flight cancelled the night before by the airline is a text to the desk and a re-booked pickup without a fee, whether the new flight is from YXU tomorrow or from Pearson today; a flight moved earlier by the airline moves the pickup earlier the same way. The travel desk re-books the flight itself for a client who asks, and the terms state that an airline's cancellation is not the passenger's.

The household's year of YXU runs

A London family flies from YXU for the March break, the summer holiday, Thanksgiving in Calgary and Christmas in Toronto's connections, and a household account holds the addresses, the car seat and the standing preference for the same chauffeur, so that each run is booked in a minute; the black car service page describes the account and the neighbourhoods page the drive times the pickups are set from.

Three questions the desk is asked about YXU departures

Can I be dropped at the door and not the curb? YXU's curb is the door - thirty metres from the counter with a trolley rack beside it; there is no closer drop at any airport in the country. What if the flight is delayed while I am at the airport? The pickup was for the departure and the fare is the fare; a delay that becomes a cancellation is a text to the desk and a chauffeur back at the curb to take you home, priced as a second fixed rate, or a re-booked run for the new flight. Do you do the 4 a.m. run from Strathroy or St. Thomas? Yes - the destinations hub has each town's fixed rate to YXU, and the St. Thomas page the figure.

The departure from the region

Strathroy, Dorchester, St. Thomas, Ingersoll, Lucan and Woodstock are thirty to forty-five minutes from YXU on the county roads and the 401, and a traveller from any of them books the run on the town's page at a fixed rate with the same timing rule plus the drive; a Stratford or Goderich family flying from YXU for the March break is an hour and books the SUV from the driveway. The neighbourhoods page covers the city and the destinations hub the towns.

Booking checklist for a YXU departure

The flight number and its scheduled time; the pickup address; the passengers and the bags; a car seat; whether the trip connects onward, so that the desk can flag a tight connection; the account or the card; and a phone number for the chauffeur's text. The reservation engine sets the pickup from the flight, and the YXU page has the terminal.

The three departures the rule is written for

The 6:30 a.m. Toronto flight that connects to everything, whose passengers are the business travellers and the students; the 6:40 a.m. sun flight in February, whose passengers are the families with the stroller and the golf bags and whose queue is the terminal's longest; and the evening Calgary flight, whose passengers are the Alberta commuters and the ski families. Each has its own pattern at the counter and security, and the desk's ninety-minute and two-hour rules are the average that gets all three to the gate with a margin; a passenger who knows their own flight's pattern - NEXUS, no bags, the 6:30 on a Tuesday - may book later on the engine, and the desk will note that the margin is theirs. The YXU page has the rule and the FAQ the questions about the early hours.

Where the car waits, and the return

The chauffeur drops at the curb and leaves; there is no waiting at a departure unless the passenger has booked a return the same day, in which case the car is at the carousel when the flight lands. A passenger flying out at 6:30 a.m. and back at 9 p.m. on a Toronto day trip books both legs as a round trip and the desk applies the round-trip figure; the Toronto page explains when the drive beats the flight for the day.
